halfway
so many
loose ends
the boots
with fraying laces
need replacing
like the old car
in the driveway
paint chipping
on the door frame
the handrail
stands unvarnished
while the toilet
half-flushes
and the kitchen light
stays dark
books stack
half-read
by the bed
the todo list
half-checked
and clean clothes
wait
to go home.
